Masisi Beefs Up BDP Campaign Machinery

The veterans comprise, former Foreign Affairs Minister and Khama’s trusted lieutenant Phandu Skelemani and Lesedi Mothibamele, former Kgalagadi Member of Parliament.
They took their first assignment over the weekend during the launch of Gaborone Bonnington North Parliamentary candidate, Anna Mokgethi.
Khama has vowed to do everything in his power to unseat the ruling party. He contends that the BDP has lost direction under his successor Mokgweetsi Masisi.
Following his failed bid to unseat Masisi by backing Pelonomi Venson- Moitoi for the party presidency, Khama has now moved to doing so through the newly formed Botswana Patriotic Front (BPF) and other opposition parties.
Speaking at the occasion, Skelemani said: “I am very happy that at the time when the fight is on, the BDP leadership found it fit to call all those who worked for the party in the past, so that they could partake in events while time and health still allow.
There are those who are fighting the BDP, joining forces because they hate our party.
They do not have any sound policies, they have no manifesto, they just hate the BDP and want to vote it out.
It is senseless to say you want to vote out BDP because you do not like it ignoring its policies and manifesto,” Skelemani said at a Gaborone Bonnington North rally in Block 3 over the weekend.
He argued that it was surprising that the opposition is friends with former President Khama. “Things have taken a new twist in Gammangwato as they are now friends with someone they never saw eye to eye with. I knew Khama wanted nothing to do with Duma Boko.
They are now singing the same song saying they hate President Mokgweetsi Masisi. You should tell them that they won’t succeed. You should be steadfast and follow your party leadership and keep them in power so they continue implementing their programmes,” he said. Skelemani also criticised the Umbrella for Democratic Change for its 100,000 jobs creation promise.
He pointed out the plan could not be realised as there is no articulation of how it would be achieved.
He called on the residents to vote for Mokgethi and Council candidate Motamma Horatius. In his view, voting for women is a positive attribute as they (women) are capable of delivering on their promises to the voters.
He said Block 3 residents are lucky to have two women vying to represent them in Parliament and Council.
Another veteran, Lesedi Mothibamele said they are still around and would never leave the BDP.
“We are here to prove to you that this party will always remain in power. We are not going anywhere.
In our manifesto for the 2019 elections we speak of developing cities like Gaborone and Francistown. If you vote for Mokgethi and Horatius, our city would develop,” he said.
“Gaborone would be a world-class city with developed infrastructure. The feat would be achieved through the BDP leadership.”
