Thousands expected at Annual Desert Walk

Gabobofane told Arts & Culture that the deadline for ticket sales is June 30.
He said preparations are going well and they have set a target of 3,000 participants. “Participants should expect a challenging route compared to last year.
For the past five years we have been using Toyota Desert Race routes but this time around, the race was not held here which means we had to come up with a new route.
We expect it to rush the adrenalin for the walker and make the walk more exciting,” he said.
Gabobofane added that they are faced with accommodation challenges because all facilities are fully booked.
He said despite that, they had to come up with strategies and locate a camping site for those who would be willing to spend a night in the diamond town.
Gabobofane also said that at the moment walkers from other countries such as Lesotho, South Africa, Mozambique, Namibia and Zambia have booked places in the walk.
He was quick to reveal that there would be free transport for participants from Gaborone to Jwaneng.
He said the arrangement is meant to make the event more relaxing without walkers having to worry about driving.
Furthermore, Gabobofane said the Vice President Slumber Tsogwane has been invited to be the guest walker. Meanwhile, Diyathoteng Hiking Club has planned a preparatory walk this weekend at Magakabe Farm.
“The club was established in 2017 to promote hiking in Botswana.
Since its formation, it has never missed Moshoeshoe walk, an event organised by Thabo Mareatlaneng in Lesotho. The members have never missed the Bush Walk either,” Gabobofane revealed.
He said the intention of the club is to see more youth walking the bushes of Jwaneng and other walks around and outside the country. Other clubs expected at the weekend walk are Mosepele, Molepolole, Batsamai and Kgatleng.
