UDC rebuts Masisi assassination hearsays

The UDC hosted a press conference at the Botswana Congress Party (BCP) house on Wednesday afternoon to respond to the allegations and another story, which puts says the party’s president, Duma Boko was in cahoots with people who want to topple Masisi. The stories that the party addressed at the press conference were from some weekend publications.
Boko labelled these reports baseless and frivolous, saying they lacked evidence. He even questioned the “government’s inability to confirm or deny the reports”.
He charged that those were tactics employed by the ruling party to garner the sympathy of the public because of eminent and inevitable exit from power.
He then absolved himself of any knowledge of his connection to any plot to topple the President.
“We want them alive in October during the general elections,” Boko said. He iterated that the story that said he was working with criminals was absurd as he had been away for the past two weeks on official UDC business in Europe.
The party’s vice president Dumelang Saleshando dismissed reports saying had Masisi’s life been in any imminent danger, the government would have deployed the necessary resources to catch the assailants. He added that at this juncture (the time of the press briefing) some of them would have already been caught.
“I will not be surprised if towards the elections, they do not make an assassination attempt,” reiterated Saleshando. Both leaders called reporters to order saying the reports that they were disseminating to the public undermined their credibility as the Fourth Estate.
The leaders rebutted reports of their hatred of the media, which they said was not the case.
