This came after a report that some councillors were de-campaigning BDP aspirant candidate Tumiso Chillboy Rakgare and the branch committee wanted to suspend the alleged culprits.

Four councillors who awee alleged to be de-campaigning Rakgare and known to this publication were supposed to be slapped with suspension letters this week.

However, Mmegi has learnt that the  culprits were sparred the wrath of  the might of the party  when Deputy Secretary, Shaw Kgathi intervened and asked the Kweneng regional committee to reconcile the members.

On Wednesday, some members of the party for the same constituency resigned from the party.  Mogoditshane constituency has never found peace since then Member of Parliament for the area, Patrick Masimolole lost general elections in 2014.

Party members have been at each other’s throats and this led to the suspension then candidate, Tshepang Mabaila for five years.  Some members of then the branch committee were also suspended. The Mogoditshane branch chairperson Percy Thuba denied that they were writing suspension letters to any party member.

“We are aware of those rumours but that is not true. Our people are united,”  Thuba said. For his part, Rakgare said all is well amongst party members in his constituency. “As far as I am concerned, we are working well with 10 candidates for council wards in my area. I do not have a problem with them and I had not reported anyone that he/she is de campaigning me,” Rakgare said.

Meanwhile Kweneng regional chairperson, Driver Motlokwa said: “It is true we held a meeting at Sebex Guest House but our meeting was mainly to check if the branch is ready for elections. We are left with few months to go for elections and it is our duty that all branches and cells are working.

The purpose of our meetings is not to deal with issues that branch or branches might be having. Our committee only helps members to unite and also with strategies they could use to win.”
