“It is true he will not play again. The doctors have advised that his injury can never heal completely and therefore has to hang his boots. Apparently there is a gap in his knee and the doctors say that gap can never close,” Rollers spokesperson, Bafana Pheto said yesterday.

He said they had thought the injury had healed only for it to recur before they left for pre-season camp in Rustenburg in June. Tshireletso will now join head coach, Mark Harrison and Teenage Mpote on the bench as one of the assistant coaches.

“When the doctors recommended that he retires from football, we decided that we could not just throw him away like that since he is our player. We asked the coach to assess him and see what role we can give him. That is when he joined the technical team as an assistant coach,” Pheto added.  Despite Tshireletso’s setback, Rollers are still spoilt for choice at the heart of the defence following the signing of Mosha Gaolaolwe from BDF XI. They will also rely on the experience of Mogogi Gabonamong while Bogosi Kaekwe is also coming up. Rollers have also signed new Senegalese striker, Pape Abdulaye Ndaw who will compete for a starting berth with Keaketswe Moloi and Terrence Mandaza. Pheto confirmed the striker arrived yesterday morning to complete his move ahead of the start of the new season.

Meanwhile Extension Gunners are said to be closing in on their former player, Katlego Koobake.

The exciting left back spent last season at Gaborone United (GU) but is close to re-joining his former teammates. Gunners have already lost several key players, but are said to have put several others on the transfer list including Amos Godirwang, Pako Modikwa and Boitumelo Modisaotsile.

GU have welcomed back coach, Rodolfo Zapata who arrived on Monday from his home country, Argentina.

Zapata had been stranded in his country with GU struggling to raise funds for his return. The club recently suffered a financial blow with the departure of Nicholas Zakhem, but things look set to be returning to normal as they continue to fight for the businessman’s comeback.

Mochudi Centre Chiefs who also lost their investor, Sayeed Jamali are also struggling to complete signings. They are still negotiating with former players, Jerome Ramatlhakwana and Noah Maposa while two Zimbabwean players are also being monitored.
