Galaxy not backing down

Club spokesperson, Tankiso Morake said they expect a response from the BPL Disciplinary Committee (DC) regarding their complaint over the Township Rollers/Miscellaneous match.
He said they had written to the BPL DC seeking audience on the matter and have been promised that the response would be sent this week. Galaxy’s argument is that Miscellaneous should have been docked points since they failed to honour the initial fixture. In their submission, Rollers should have gained three soft points, which would in turn mean they have to play Galaxy to decide the league winner. “We are not fighting Rollers. All we want is the rules to be followed because that would set a bad precedence if we do not follow this issue up,” he said. Galaxy have previously threatened to take up the matter with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Zurich, although costs might prove prohibitive.
Meanwhile, Morake said the club would know, latest, by Monday, whether Miguel Da Costa will be their head coach this coming season.
The Portuguese mentor’s contract expired at the end of last season. The two parties had already commenced discussions on the new contract before he left for pre-season break. Speaking to Mmegi Sport on Wednesday, Morake said by the time the team begins its pre-season training on Monday, they would have made a decision. “The coach left in good standing when he returned to his home country. We were negotiating and as is the norm, a good coach like him will also attract interest from teams outside this country and some will table offers that we cannot match,” Morake said.
“He was, however, willing to stay the last time we held discussions because he still wants to achieve with this club.”
He said they expect to have received his response by Monday.
Besides helping Galaxy finish second in the league, Da Costa also helped them win the Mascom Top 8.
In his first season, he won the Mascom Top 8 coach of the tournament and wrapped up the season with the BTC Premiership coach of the season award. The club has already signed Bakang Leshona as well as Katlego Mbise from Mochudi Centre Chiefs and Extension Gunners respectively. Mbise’s arrival follows Zebras’ goalkeeper, Ezekiel Morake’s departure to TS Galaxy.
Galaxy are currently negotiating with Thabang Sesinyi who has been in South Africa as they look to fill Thero Setsile’s void. According to Morake, the club has since decided to keep only 25 players in their books. “In the past we used to loan out a good number of players.
That thing caused problems for us because some of the teams failed to pay these players’ salaries,” he said.
“We have since decided to offload players on permanent basis and keep only 25, which will be registered with the Premier League.”
