In an interview with Arts & Culture, Charlie said his journey as a make-up artist started in 2015 when he was still a student.  He says his aspiration is to be an Oscar winner in future. He also would like to become one of the best makeup artists in the world.

“The people who inspire me most are Kelly Mokoti and Tlhomamo Diamond. They have passion and what it takes to bring change in the art industry.

Since I am a lecturer, the biggest change that I will bring to the world is to empower others so that they have the skills that I have.”

“I see potential in young artists. Internationally, I would love to see myself working at Disneyland. The films that I love most are futuristic ones like Black Panther. Those are the type of films I would like to see myself working on,” he said.

Charlie has worked with different local artistes in videos like Amantle Brown on her song titled Bereka Mosadi, Berry Heart Ba Kae, MoJamica, Rragwe Tinana to mention a few.

His work has also been shown in a film titled Gatwe Erile that comprises complex make up like pure pieces, special effects that he does mostly. Special effects makeup is the type of make up where an artist creates monstrosity on characters, making them look like they have been beaten up, being in an accident to name a few.

“I have also worked with different films productions like Chief Movie Production, a crime and gangster production and on a horror film called The Small House.

I worked as production designer costume makeup and styling in both films. I don’t only do film make up. I also do bridal, professional TV, fashion makeups.

I have also worked with Raymond Godfrey who is one of the best fashion photographer locally,” he stated.

Furthermore, he has worked on beauty pageants and popular faces like Bouncy, Sharon Seno who acts as Marang in a South African soapie Muvhango and her collegue Maxwell Dichi who acts as Seretse.

The 27-year-old from Ramotswa is a Film Art Director by profession. However, he is currently employed as a Costume and Styling lecturer at AFDA Botswana. He does costume make-up and set styling for films.

He started getting recognition in the local entertainment industry after marketing his work on Facebook. However, he pointed out that like other artists, he faced challenges such as lack of local market in the film makeup art.

He also said career exploitation was prevalent in the country. He said that because of his work, he had been accused of being illuminati. Charlie discarded those allegations saying that he was simply a spiritual individual.
