Recently, Toyota 1000km desert race revellers enjoyed a huge party on the train from Lobatse to Selebi Phikwe.

But Botswana Tourism Organisation Acting Public Relations and Communication Manager, Samuel Lephalo said as of now he could not disclose the transport arrangements for the upcoming event because negotiations were still underway. However, he said they would much consider the matter in terms of reducing road accidents and traffic congestion. When Desert race enthusiasts boarded the BR passenger train for Phikwe lately, the turn of events was a welcome development for both stakeholders, the Botswana Railways and the public.

Even though the Epic fans might not get their train gig like the TDR ones, Lephalo revealed that the only change at the adrenaline skydive event is the lala vuka experience.

“This year we have adjusted our times. In the previous four other editions, it was normally from 6am to around mid night.

This time around, it will be from 6pm to 6am. Our main reason is that the event is being held away from the mining site unlike in the past,” Lephalo said.  He further highlighted that they have a new activity they were bringing on board- the Para Motor Glide. Powered paragliding, also known as paramotoring, is a form of ultralight aviation where the pilot wears a motor on his back (a paramotor) which provides enough thrust to take off using an adapted paraglider or paramotor wing. It can be launched in still air, and on level ground by the pilot alone — no assistance is required. “We will also have live music performances from Shanti Lo and Tshepi M,” he said.

BTO, in partnership with Parachute Association of Botswana and BOTASH are some of the key stakeholders putting the event together.

This event takes place in the premier and prominent Makgadikgadi Salt Pans. Formerly held at the Nata Bird Sanctuary, the sky diving fun moved to Sowa Town in the Makgadikgadi area since 2017.

Makgadikgadi is synonymous with awesome birding experiences and open natural landscapes that are a marvel from any view, be it from ground or above. Makgadikgadi Epic has been happening for the past five years. It comprises skydiving and a few flying activities.  It also appreciates the scenery of the Makgadikgadi.  The three-day event will be held at the L.APA Recreational Area in Sowa Town.

It has been proved to be an exciting activity event. Makgadikgadi Epic promises adventure lovers who want to go skydive a different experiential activity in Makgadikgadi. For this three-day event, tickets go for P50 for adults covering all the three days, while children under the age of 12 will go in for free. The event will be held from July 11-16, 2019.
