Canon, Jaguars Romance Forges Ahead

Livingstone Kolobeng College (LKC) principal, Gary Wills said it has taken them a few years to develop the infrastructure to accommodate a rugby club. He said it has been two years since they joined the Botswana Rugby Union (BRU) top rugby league.
“It has been years since we decided to join the big leagues and it all comes from our development of school rugby.
We wanted to introduce our boys into a professional level and we succeeded. We can reflect in our last match against Gaborone Hogs. Some people were saying it was one of our best games so far,” he said.
Wills said the Canon sponsorship was worth P80, 000. It included pre and post-match kit, tracksuits and playing kit. He appreciated that it was a substantial package and as a club they intend to give value for money to sponsors like Canon.
The club chairman, Bryn Williams said they regard Canon Botswana as a partner not sponsor. He said as they embark on their legacy, they want Canon to buy into Jaguars strategies, growth and development of the club.
“At the beginning of each season we give Canon our plans for the season. What we hope to achieve, to grow rugby and we give them a buy in. Everything that this club commits to is in line with LKC rugby vision,” Williams said.
He said the combination of LKC, Canon and Jaguars would ensure the development of rugby for the country. Williams said they want Jaguars players are guided to be great ambassadors for everything that they do. He said the strategy continues because it is work in progress.
For his part, Simon Stewart, Canon Botswana director said having operated in this country for the past 41 years, it is their objective to give back to the community, in this case through supporting sport, rugby in particular.
He said during the current season, his company would assist and support events to promote the growth of rugby within the Jaguars. Other Jaguars sponsors are: AON Botswana, Old Mutual, First Mutual Reinsurance, Grid Iron and LKC.
