This follows the conclusion of the league programme last week after Township Rollers thumped arch-rivals Mochudi Centre Chiefs 5-1 in a play-off match to determine this season’s title winners.  Speaking to Mmegi Sport yesterday, beMOBILE head of sponsorships and consumer public relations, Tiro Kganela said they have no problem releasing the prize money, but added that they can only act on the advice of the BFA leadership.

“Remember we were instructed to go to Jwaneng where Chiefs were crowned champions and awarded medals. We were then told to go to Francistown where we refused. We were also instructed to go to Molepolole last week and we still refused to go there. There is also this issue of Gilport Lions versus Rollers at Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS),” he said.

Kganela said as a sponsor they want an undisputed champion and would therefore await guidance and clarity on the issues including the one at CAS.

“We would not want a situation where we crown champions and distribute money only for that decision to come back to bite us as a sponsor,” he said.

Maclean Letshwiti was elected the new BFA president on Saturday, beating Tebego Sebego.

With the new administration at the association now in charge, the issue of bringing the season to an end appears top of their assignments.

CAS recently requested for some documents from the association as it continues to deal with the matter of Ofentse Nato status.  It is yet to allocate a date for the hearing.

The match was ordered by the BFA National Disciplinary Committee (NDC) after Chiefs gained advantage at the top of the log standings with soft points.  It failed to take place on two occasions with the first being when the Botswana National Sport Commission (BNSC) cancelled it hours before the scheduled time to pave way for Zebras’ participation at the COSAFA Castle Cup. The second time the match was cancelled 30 minutes after Chiefs were left with only six players on the field following midfielder, Arnold Mampori’s head injury.
