Cutting-Edge Insurance Plugs Education Gap

In an interview with MonitorBusiness, managing director of Cutting-Edge, Tirelo Tshukudu said they usually advice customers on matters of insurance and then arrange a cover or product based on the client’s needs.
“We have dedicated professional advisers who help clients identify their exposures and risks in regards to insurance,” said Tshukudu, who has been in the insurance business for over 27 years.
“We advise them on what can be managed in other ways before we actually develop a product. We also offer ready-made products.”With a tagline that reads ‘driven by your business risk needs’, Tshukudu said it was motivated by the challenges their clients meet daily. He said the enormous gap they identified in the insurance industry has always been education.
According to Tshukudu, their clients are not always fully educated about insurance in terms of what is or not insured and they tend to find out only when they need to be claiming hence the need to first teach and let them know the concept of insurance to help them make informed decisions.
“If a person is fully educated about insurance, they get to make informed decisions on the kind of the insurance product they want as they will be aware of what it consists of,” he said. Additionally Tshukudu alluded that most people tend to mistake insurance for being a savings to an extent that when it’s time to claim and there is a challenge of the claim not being honoured, the client asks what happened to their money. ‘All this is due to them not fully understanding the concept behind insurance’, he said.
Even though the business has been doing well with steady growth ever since inception, Tshukudu said they have been encountering a few challenges.
He outlined that one of the major challenges they have is the current economic conditions as most clients want to insure but don’t have enough money, which in return makes them become sluggish.
In addition he stated that they cover every angle of insurance being business, personal, life, agriculture, amongst others.
Cutting-Edge, which has been in operation for only a year, provides tailor-made products.
