Carjacking accused on further remand

The state alleges that Benito Mazinyane, Dumisani Ncube and Amogelang Modisaotsile robbed Mmoloki and Moshe Makhumalo their vehicle and goods at Borolong on February 20, 2019.

When the accused appeared in court for another mention today, inspector Kenneth Edward told the court that investigations into the matter are still ongoing.

“Our investigations are still continuing. We are yet to arrest three other suspects in connection with this matter and we are hopeful to arrest them very soon. We pray for another mention date to be set and for the accused to be further remanded in custody,” Edward said.

He added: “We further pray for blood samples of Mazinyane and Modisaotsile to be extracted in order to expedite our investigations. The two accused persons are refusing for their blood samples to be extracted”.

However, Mazinyane and Modisaotsile denied that they were refusing to have their blood samples extracted.

They said that the Investigating Officer (IO) has never visited them in jail for facilitation of their blood samples to be extracted.

The magistrate acceded to the application of the state and further remanded the accused in custody.

They are due in court on August 5.
