Nxakato boarding master's death points to suicide

Inspector Opelo Olebile said that the 48-year-old man did not die in a car accident as it was previously thought. 

He said that it was previously believed that the deceased met his death after he had lost control of his car while driving along a gravel road from Sowa Town to Tshwaane settlement. 

When Mmegi made a follow up about the incident on Tuesday, Olebile said that investigations show that the former boarding master had committed suicide. 

He said that they found a five-litre container filled with petrol in the car, which shows that the deceased might have torched himself.

Olebile said that they do not know what might have led the deceased to commit suicide.

“Normally, people write a note explaining why they killed themselves but in this case there was no note,” Olebile said.

When Mmegi asked him about a rumour circulating that the deceased killed himself because he feared the repercussions of impregnating a Nxakato JSS student, Olebile said he is aware of the rumour but nobody has launched a formal report to that effect.

“We have not recorded any reports from Nxakato JSS nor parents about a school girl pregnant by the boarding master, but we heard a rumour to that effect. Please call the head teacher of Nxakato JSS and ask her about that. She is in a better position to answer that question,” said Olebile.

Nxakato JSS head teacher Ruth Higgins said she could not confirm or deny the allegations.

 “I am not allowed to talk to the media. Please talk to the regional education director, but I am also sure that he is not aware of the pregnancy issue. Let sleeping dogs lie,” Higgins who refused to shed more information about the pregnancy rumour said.
