The competition kicked off on Tuesday and ends on Sunday. But Botswana has already suffered damaging 3-0 defeats to Cameroon and Kenya.
Botswana is in Group B with defending champions Cameroon, Algeria and Kenya. It was beaten 3-0 by Cameroon in the first match before going down to Kenya by a similar score line. Botswana was scheduled to play against another powerhouse, Algeria yesterday.
Head of delegation, George Keotsene said there was an improvement in the performance of the team between the first and second games.
He, however, said that was no enough consistency to make the team to at least win a set or two against the second ranked team on the continent, Cameroon.
“We made too many errors in service, especially in the first game against Cameroon. Our block and defence also did not come to the party,” he said.
Regarding the team’s preparations ahead of the tournament, Keotsene said they obviously could have done a lot more like playing more friendly matches. He said in addition to the challenge of resources, they had to balance team preparations with the time that they keep players and officials from work and school.
