Mokgethisi carves a niche in IT industry

The Serowe-born technology savvy gent’s love for games made him fall head-over heel with information technology (IT), which allows him to explore the technology world to the fullest. As such he enrolled with Limkokwing University of Creative Technology where he graduated with a degree in IT. While studying he picked his interest in the app development, henceforth his thriving business as an app developer for Android software.
“I used to play games online and they inspired me to start developing apps. During my school days, I would create websites and I was quite good at it and it impressed my lecturers. I knew then that I wanted to venture into the software industry,” he said.
Mokgethisi has two apps under his belt, which can be downloaded into the play store for Android software users. The two apps are Span Job finder and quiz game dubbed Bots 50 trivia. Span job finder, launched in July, is an app that helps people find jobs easily, because once downloaded the user will get notifications every time there is a new job advertised. The user can also share the advertisement with their friends via social media. Furthermore one is able to choose the kind of jobs related to one’s
qualifications and receive specific notifications only. He said that the app has received overwhelming response from users, registering 500 users and has reached 3,000 likes. It has also been rated 3.9 out of five by play store.
“The Bots 50 trivia game app is solely meant to prelude the hype of upcoming Bot50 celebrations. Players get to answer questions about Botswana ranging from history, politics, culture and many other issues in the country to know more about our beloved country,” he said.
The aspiring entrepreneur also noted that app developing business is lucrative because the world has embarked on digital migration and day-to-day life revolves around the use of Internet.
He is however concerned that digital migration in Botswana is moving at a slower pace and it will take time for the country to catch up with the rest of the world.
This he said makes app developing business a challenge but because of his passion and determination he is not willing to give up.
His said other challenges that threaten his business are lack of finance and appreciation from the local market.
Mokgethisi also appealed to organisations to buy space on his website for advertising, a thing he says could generate income for his business. His dream is to develop more apps to simplify everyday life as well as to develop apps for international markets.
Mokgethisi advised upcoming entrepreneurs, both young and old, that the key to success is persistence no matter how hard it is.
