BOKA had written to the mother body about their intention to host the tournament. Karate was accused of failing to follow the hosting policy.

That did not dampen Bathai’s spirit as he forged ahead and appealed the decision with the Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Sport and Culture Development (MYSC). The Ministry gave BOKA the green light.

On top of that it allocated P3million allocated towards Team Botswana preparations. “I am very excited about this reality. The whole world is paying attention to Botswana this week,” said an elated Bathai.  Bathai said World Karate Federation (WKF) president, Antonio Espinosa and his wife arrived in Gaborone on Tuesday after spending sometime in the Okavango Delta.

“We had coaching and referees courses conducted by WKF experts. Countries have come in large numbers with North Africa countries fielding almost all categories,” he said.Meanwhile, the visiting karate delegates from UFAK, Commonwealth and WKF paid a courtesy call on sports minister, Tshekedi Khama on Wednesday.
