da Costa joined Galaxy at the start of last season on a 12-month contract but delayed talks over a new contract as he returned to his native country at the end of the season.  Galaxy’s pubic relations officer, Tankiso Morake told Mmegi Sport that da Costa returned to the country on Wednesday.

Morake said the two parties agreed terms over a new contract, but the trainer was yet to put pen to paper.

“I can confirm that the coach is here, he is in the country. We began talks for a new deal as soon as he arrived here and I can say we have agreed terms with him but he is yet to sign anything,” Morake said.

“We, however, remain hopeful that he will commit to this club. Once he does, we will do a formal announcement.”

da Costa is highly regarded in the country following an impressive debut season. He led Galaxy to the Mascom Top 8 triumph as the team finished as runners up in the league for the third consecutive time.

His side was knocked out of the Orange FA Cup in the quarterfinals. He remained undefeated in the league. The 37-year-old won the BTC Premiership coach of the season accolade.

He oversaw the team’s afternoon training yesterday.

Meanwhile, Galaxy has confirmed their participation in the 2019/2020 CAF Confederations Cup.

The team snatched a ticket into Africa’s second club tournament after winning the Mascom Top 8 and will be making their second appearance.

Last season they were knocked out in the preliminary round by Mozambique side Costa da Sol. The team is in negotiations with South Africa’s league champions, Mamelodi Sundowns and FA cup winners, TS Galaxy for international friendly matches.
