CAF keeps faith in Bondo

Only 12 referees remain, and Bondo, the first Botswana referee to officiate at the AFCON finals, made the cut.
Bondo was handed the high profile last 16 encounter between Cameroon and Nigeria, where he acquainted himself well in the process.
Although he was not given any assignment in the quarter finals, which concluded last night, Bondo is in line to handle one of the semi final encounters, even as a fourth official.
CAF has consistently kept faith in the Botswana official handing him his AFCON finals debut in 2017.
He handled all continental competitions, including World Cup qualifiers, and would look to make the huge leap to the global stage. Meanwhile, the South Africa’s hopes of bringing a third title to the COSAFA region ended at the hands of perennial rivals, Nigeria on Wednesday night, in an underwhelming contest.
Madagascar was in action last night, holding the southern region’s remaining hopes.
It has been an a lukewarm tournament for the COSAFA region after a dreadful start was only saved by South Africa and Madagascar’s progress to the last 16.
Both South Africa and Madagascar recorded shock victories in the last 16, with Bafana Bafana dumping the hosts, Egypt, while the Islanders accounted for the Democratic Republic of Congo.
