Mosadi Sechaba unites female artists

Mosadi Sechaba spokesperson, Emulo Kgomotso explained to Arts & Culture that women working together have always been an inevitable taboo.
She said women were made to believe that they could not work together and that is why her organisation took it upon itself to eradicate that myth.
“We want to rise above these beliefs and come together to showcase creative women under one roof.
“It is very common for women to be compared to each other and made to feel as though they are in competition instead of encouraging unity in an already male-dominated industry. This is why today as Mosadi Sechaba, we decided to erase that way of thinking completely,” she said.
Kgomotso added that as a local female artist, she was also concerned about the lack of proper structure available to help women in the creative industry. She added that the local music industry does not have a structure for women, something she said Kast fought for, for years.
She explained that as women in the local arts industry, they decided to change people’s perceptions on women artists. She said it was high time female artists unite as a common front and speak with one voice. She said when united, they could set common standards and make decisions about their careers.
“Arts are our livelihoods. This event will give more women in the entertainment industry exposure. There are more women doing great in the industry than we are made to see, with only one or two on every other flier. In this event, we tried to have every female that has worked hard to position herself in the business,” she said. She said that they would like to host more events for women all year round and have that event annually. She added that they would continue fighting for women until they see a fair distribution of opportunities, reimbursement and respect.
She explained that the idea of a female child venturing into the creative industry was still an uncomfortable thought for many, especially parents and caregivers. She said that was attributed by a negative perspective about the industry, because of the roles women are often portrayed playing. She also said women were in most cases taken advantage of.
Some of the event headliners are Charma Gal, Samantha Mogwe, Unik Attractions, Bouncy, Licky, Mpho Sebina, Girly O’Dibody, DJ Cupid and many more. There will also be a female dancer, female designers and stylist Tsholo Dikobe who will be responsible for styling and making the artists look glamorous. Thato Chifana will do graphics.
Tickets are sold at P100 (standard) and P350 VIP inclusive of a perfect view of the stage, finger foods and drinks. They are sold at Webtickets and Spar outlets countrywide.
