Galaxy does not recognise Rollers as champions

Galaxy wanted Miscellaneous docked points for failure to honour a fixture against Rollers last season. The BPL, through an instruction from the mother body, the Botswana Football Association (BFA) ordered a replay instead, acknowledging the Serowe side had been notified late.

But Galaxy, who were in title contention with Rollers, wanted Miscellaneous to lose points which would have been awarded to Popa. With the soft points, Rollers were not going to be crowned champions, which would have necessitated a play-off decider to determine the champions.

Galaxy threatened to take the case as far as the Court of Sport Arbitration in Zurich, but the BFA announced on Friday the matter had been resolved.

“Jwaneng Galaxy and BFA discussed the issue at length, aimed at resolving it for the benefit of Botswana football. The two parties eventually came to a common ground and amicably resolved the matter,” the BFA said in a statement on Friday.

But Galaxy public relations officer, Tankiso Morake said they only backed down for the sake of football.

“We still believe we have a strong case but we resolved it for the benefit of Botswana football. This does not say we recognise Township Rollers as the champions,” Morake said.
