Let football be tomorrows winner

After acrimonious wars or personality clashes in public, we plead with the contenders to display maturity and maintain cool heads.  The contenders should go into this weekend’s elections bearing in mind that there will be winners and losers, and those who have lost should accept defeat and embrace the victor.  This is football, as it is widely regarded as the beautiful game.  That should show on Saturday, as football should emerge the winner.

We have all longed for this moment. Our football has been tainted as we have witnessed character assassinations in public arenas, something that could rob football of its beauty. It is time to move forward and whoever will be voted must be a ‘game-changer’ in our football.  Our football has stalled and supporters, sponsors and the general public alike want to see progress.

In Tebogo Sebego, Maclean Letshwiti and Solomon Mantswe, the contenders for the BFA presidency, we have candidates who have shown their passion for football development in the country and have contributed a lot to football in one way or another over the years.  We are spoilt for choice hence we should be ready to celebrate whoever triumphs on the day.  The winner will need our support to take our football forward.  There have been crises with the 2015-2016 season, proving difficult to finish due to cases of lack of proper administration in football.

After the general assembly, work must commence immediately to catch up on lost time.  It is the manner in which we conduct ourselves, administrate and manage our football affairs that we will be able to attract sponsorships.  The general assembly gives us the opportunity to correct the wrongs of the past and come up with better ways to run our football and delegates should be focused on achieving that.  Football has evolved to become a massive business, employing millions and we need to take advantage of that and be counted.

We have the capacity, but we need to do away with the egoistic mentality and save the game in the country.

As envisaged by many, this general assembly should bring the curtain down on the 2015-2016 season and its crises and open a new exciting 2016-2017 season.  We wish all the contenders all the best and may the beautiful game emerge the winner of the day.

Today’s thought

“Leadership is not a popularity contest; it’s about leaving your ego at the door.  The name of the game is to lead without a title.”
