The BFA found itself clashing with its organ, the BPL on several occasions this past season, culminating in the suspension of the Premier League board.

“Our BPL structure is not right. We will have to look at how it can be fixed,” Sebego said during his campaign team’s launch at Old Naledi on Tuesday.

Sebego has identified the BPL as the problem child after a fractious relationship with the BFA executive committee. Chairpersons of the clubs make up the BPL board, but Sebego believes the arrangement is due for renewal.

Despite facing a testing last year of his four year tenure, Sebego said he is pleased with progress football has made. “When we campaigned, it was about restructuring and to divide the BFA into four blocks. That is why we now have teams like Sankoyo, Black Rangers and others emerging,” he said.

Sebego said under his reign, Lekidi Investment, the association’s commercial arm, was created as a way of generating revenue. There is also the hospitality sector where the BFA plans to fully utilise its hostels to generate income. He said the association has seen a sharp increase in sponsorship figures. Sebego spoke about the need to instil discipline among executive committee members.

“I am better placed, with my team, to take football forward. We have the perfect opportunity to address the problems by voting for the right people,” he said, urging delegates to bloc vote.

He promised the return of the Football Association Cup, formerly sponsored by Coca-Cola, next season. It has been four seasons since the tournament was discontinued following Coca-Cola’s withdrawal.
