BoFiNET Injects P136,000 Into BISA Softball

The sponsorship was launched this morning at the National Diamond. 

The sponsorship is for junior and secondary schools national softball championships and it is for a period of three years. BISA president, Joshua Gaotlhobogwe told Sport Monitor that they are excited by the gesture that has been extended by BoFiNET. He said the sponsorship should have started last year but there were delays.

“For a very long time we have never had sponsorship of this calibre. The incentives given to individual players are encouraging. We are struggling at schools with purchasing playing kits,” he said. Gaotlhobogwe said he was impressed that teachers came for the games although some schools did not show up. He said that this is due to the overtime issues.

Gontlafetse said softball starts at schools and as such the elite sides can only tap from BISA.

“That is why we found it fit to negotiate sponsorship for BISA with

BoFiNET.  It was a way of honouring the respect we have for them,” he said.

Gontlafetse noted that the junior structures are not as intact the way they should be. 

One of the players, Gendeledu Maswikiti from Makhubu Junior Secondary

School in Selebi-Phikwe said they were making a come back after failing to qualify for the national championship last year.  He said in 2017 they finished in position six and the plan this year is to perform better. 

There are 16 teams who are competing in the softball national championships.

Prizes: Position 1: (P3,000), Position 2: (P2,500) and Position 3: (P2,000).

Individual prizes: Best catcher – P500, Best fielder – P500, Best batter – P750, Best pitcher – P750 and MVP – P1,000.
