However, there is light at the and of the tunnel as the club is set to conclude a deal with its  technical sponsor, All Kasi.

“Talks are at an advanced stage. We hope to conclude the deal by the end of this month. We would sign a five-year deal with All Kasi.

They will be in charge of paying the players’ salaries amongst other things,” Gunners’ chairman, Phenyo Gothaang told Mmegi Sport yesterday.

He further said due to the financial situation, the club had to change their transfer policy as they seek to sign cheaper players.

“We will not sign any big names this season. We are looking for young players whom we will develop. We want players who can show the hunger and who will be motivated to play. That’s how we would approach the transfer market,” he explained.

The team’s coach, Daniel ‘Chico’ Nare said the pre-season has been disrupted. However, he revealed that he is determined to work with what he has. “It has been the story of my life at Gunners. I have never been here when money was available. I have to depend on players that I get from schools and lower division clubs. I would not say I had a good pre-season. Since I opened four weeks ago I have been conducting trials up to today.

That is not a good life but that makes our job. It tests you as a coach,” he said. The Peleng boys are one of the teams with a large following in the country with the supporters having too many expectations at the start of the season.

However, Nare said his team’s performance in the next season will be determined by the kind of players he will bring in.

“That one will be determined by if we can sign experienced players going forward. As it stands, I need to sign at least four seasoned players. Other than that I cannot spend the whole season teaching,” he said.

Nare also confirmed the signing of former Township Rollers full back Otlantshekela Mooketsi.

The left back was part of the team that played in the Regent Matebejana Cup played last weekend, where Gunners lost 2-1 to Chiefs in the final.
