Amrouche has stolen a march on his rivals, and, if terms are agreed upon, he is expected to sign on the dotted line. BFA received more than 40 applications from across the globe, before trimming their list to six.

The new coach is expected to start duty on August 1, but sources said the salary could provide the biggest stumbling blocks in talks with Amrouche.

The mother body is reportedly offering P120,000, but the Belgian is holding out for a better package, amid reports of heightening interest from Absa Premiership sides.

The Zebras job became vacant following the sacking of David Bright in February. Mogomotsi 'Teenage' Mpote, who has been holding forte on an interim basis, will be retained as assistant to the substantive coach.

If appointed Amrouche faces a difficult task of taking the Zebras to the Africa Cup of Nations in 2021, after last week's tough draw.

Zebras have been drawn against new African champions, Algeria, neighbours Zambia and Zimbabwe.
