The Zebras take on Chipolopolo (Copper Bullets) in the first leg of the 2020 African Nations Championships (CHAN) qualifiers looking for a healthy lead to take to Zambia.

The Zebras arrived in Francistown on Sunday evening to continue preparations for the match.

“In terms of preparations, I can’t complain. We played two friendly games (on Saturday and Sunday) against Lesotho in Gaborone before departing for Francistown. The games were very intense and good for our preparations against a strong side like Zambia,” Mpote said.

“I have got no doubt that as a result (of the intense friendly and overall preparations) the team will fare well on Friday,” he added.

The Zebras drew the first match 2-2 while the second match ended 1-1.

Jwaneng Galaxy and Township Rollers players, who featured in high profile friendly matches for their respective clubs on Saturday, joined the team on Sunday.

Township Rollers and Jwaneng Galaxy played friendly matches against Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns respectively.

The Zebras trained at the Francistown Council Stadium. Mpote said that only Mothusi Johnson has picked a minor knock. “He will definitely be available for the match,” Mpote said.

Zambia will host the Zebras for the return leg in Lusaka on August 3, 2019.  The winner of the two-legged tie will play either Eswatini or Angola in the final qualifying round for the Cameroon 2020 CHAN competition.
