It's a fake document- Police

The release, dated 24th July 2019 does not have a signature. The fake document reads, ‘As an initiative to reduce road fatalities in Botswana, the Botswana Police Service (BPS) has introduced a reward system whereby the public is encouraged to report anyone driving without a license and get a reward of P500’. 

Asked about the authenticity of the media release, BPS deputy public relations officer, senior superintendent, Near Bagali, vowed that action would be taken against the inventor(s) of the fake document. 

Bagali said they have warned members of the public against the abuse of social media but their efforts seem to have fallen on deaf ears.  

“The person who created the fake document used BPS’ masthead, which contains our logo. This is against the law and someone will be charged. We are currently investigating the matter to establish where the fake document originates from,” Bagali said.
