Police investigate murder, suicide

Botswana Police Service’s (BPS) deputy public relations officer, senior superintendent Near Bagali, said investigators believe that the 35-year-old man who was found hanging from a tree near Taung flyover killed his 33-year-old girlfriend before committing suicide.

Bagali said on Tuesday early morning at around 4am when passing nearby Bachelor of Science in Construction Engineering Technology (BSCET) intersection, a passerby saw a car parked suspiciously, as the car was almost inside a trench. He went on to check what could have happened.

“He discovered a motionless woman lying next to the car and reported the incident to the police. The woman was taken to Princess Marina Hospital where doctors certified her dead upon arrival.  When investigating the matter further police later discovered a man believed to be her boyfriend hanging from a tree,” Bagali said.

He stated that the woman had sustained head injuries, and it is suspected that her boyfriend assaulted her before fleeing the scene and committing suicide. Bagali said their investigations revealed that the duo was last seen together and that they earlier on had a misunderstanding.
