He met BFA officials on Wednesday and Thursday, as a deal is imminent, if terms are agreed.

BFA president, Maclean Letshwiti said the coach was in the country for interviews, although he admitted an appointment was close.

“I will check with the technical committee in terms of progress, but we must make an appointment soon, maybe in the next two weeks,” Letshwiti said.

Amrouche was considered a dark horse when the race to replace David Bright began in March, but he has emerged as odds-on favourite for the job.

Initially, the BFA was keen to bring back Jelusic Veselin, who drove Zebras to greater heights during his stint between 2003 and 2006.Peter Butler was also mentioned, but did not make the shortlist, after BFA received more than 40 applications for the post.
