Bruised Chiefs find peace at last

The Chiefs family will breathe a little easier although the damage has already been done

The two parties, who have been fighting for the control of the club for years, have agreed to move forward without any quarrels as they seek to make Chiefs great again.

The factions recently agreed to withdraw a contempt of court case before the High Court after fruitful discussions, which have been ongoing since Magosi relegated to the lower division.

“We have actually withdrawn the case. It is just a matter of court processes that have to take place,” outgoing club chairperson, Raymond Tsheko said yesterday.

The case was filed by the Tsheko faction that accused the other one led by Ramocha Tsieng of running a parallel committee despite the general membership having voted in a new committee as per the initial court order. 

The general membership will tomorrow usher in a new committee whose main mandate will be to take the team back to the Premier League after the previous committee’s term elapsed.

The team has already lost some of the key players following relegation. Last season’s influential striker, Morris Ruzivo has joined Security Systems while midfielder, Arnold Mampori crossed over to Township Rollers.

Captain, Nelson Moreetsi and goalkeeper, Siamisang Kgosipula have moved to Notwane while last season’s young player of the season, Bakang Leshona has joined Jwaneng Galaxy.

Tsheko said most of the players at Chiefs had signed a year’s contracts with the club, which now makes them free agents.

“They are free to join teams of their choice.” He said despite his committee going out, they had already appointed Edwin Masire and Malunga Mariri as the caretaker technical team. They are currently undertaking the process of recruitment.

Tsheko said he will not seek re-election even if the general membership had wished that he continues to serve in the committee.

“I have served Chiefs about eight years. It is time for others to take the baton. Where I stand right now, I have made up my mind that others should take over and run the club,” he said.

Tsheko is hopeful that the new leadership will take the club forward. “We will continue to give them support in terms of ideas and we will avail any information that they need about this club,” Tsheko said.Meanwhile, BDF XI will also hold their AGM tomorrow at SSKB Auditorium.
