UB-FACE project administrator, Manyane Olebile explained that the carnival will give young upcoming artists a platform for exposure, while at the same time offering families clean entertainment, which can be enjoyed by the whole family. He said the carnival will feature performances by local artists only. He explained that UB-FACE decided to engage local artists only in order to give them exposure and encourage growth of the arts industry in the country, especially young upcoming artists. He added that they also want to encourage Batswana to support local artists.

“The objective of the carnival is to showcase Botswana’s creative designs and diverse cultural expressions. It will feature music and dance of different ethnic groups, carnival costumes and cultural performances from different countries such as Brazil, the United States of America, Russia, China, South Africa and many other exciting international cultures,” he said.

The activities will start with the official opening on August 24, which will be held at the UB Campus Indoor Sports Complex. Vice President, Mokgweetsi Masisi will be the guest of honour. The official opening tickets are P250 VIP, and P120 standard. The tickets are available at Webtickets, UB and Spar Webtickets outlets.

Theatre lovers will get to enjoy performances from a number of groups on August 25 and 26, at Block 253, which is the Department of Visual and Performing Arts.

Olebile said different companies will have stalls in front of Block 252 throughout the carnival.

The carnival parade will begin at 3pm from UB to Main Mall and back to UB. The carnival will continue after the parade with carnival activities while the audience will be treated to music by DJs.
