The teams in camp at the BCA Oval are the boys’ Under-13 and 19 teams as well as the girls’ Under-19. Men’s national team coach, Joseph Angara is monitoring the teams in camp and is assisted by BCA development coaches.

The girls’ team is preparing for the eight nations tournament which Botswana hosts this month. The tournament features Namibia, Swaziland, Malawi, Zambia, Mozambique, South Africa Invitational XI, Lesotho and the hosts Botswana. Lesotho was added recently into the tournament after Zimbabwe Invitational XI pulled out.

“With Angara monitoring all the teams, men’s national team captain, Karabo Motlhanka is working closely with the girls while Reginald Nehonde is working with the Under-19 boys team,” said BCA fixtures and publicity secretary, Sumod Damodar.

The Under-19 boys team, which has had a number of international practice matches with clubs from Zimbabwe and a recent Namibian tour, is preparing for the Africa Division One World Cup qualifiers to be held in South Africa in September.

“The Under-19 boys are currently playing in the national BCA league as Shining Stars. This is a way to give them more game time and regular practice for their upcoming encounters in South Africa,” Damodar said.

A team of 30 Under-13 boys recently concluded a high performance camp at the BCA Oval. The players were drawn from various schools across the country.

“We are working on a system to keep the Under-13 active with more game time in a regular national league. We are also in the process of requesting cricket to be included in the BISA games where the Under-13 will participate,” Damodar said.
