Giants hold AGMs amid pressing matters

League champions, Rollers have called their members to the University of Botswana, where the club will hold its elective meeting.
“The new committee may and may not be in office for four years as it has been the norm. As the club, we are heading towards privatisation, soon the club will run as a company. So everything will be done in alignment with this new model,” said Rollers public relations officer, Bafana Pheto.
Popa’s 57 branches will be updated on amongst other issues, the finances, players and state of the club. However, their biggest task will be to elect a new chairperson. Nominees will be announced tomorrow at the meeting, but Pheto and incumbent, Walter Kgabung are said to be contesting.
The two loyalists have played an integral part in the club’s president, Jagdish Shah’s regime and it promises to be a tight contest.
“I will stand in any position the Rollers family want me in, they will decide for me. All the names will be submitted to the secretary general and we will learn all the candidates on Saturday,” said Pheto.
Just across the street, GU supporters will convene at Nanogang Junior Secondary School. The Reds are meeting for the first time since the return of businessman, Nicholas Zackhem. Moyagoleele have signed a one-year technical sponsorship deal with Italian Sportswear company, Erreà and the members of the Money Machine will be informed more on the deal, among other issues.
At Lobatse Civic Centre at midday, Gunners will meet to discuss a number of key issues, including deciding on an investor while a draft of the new constitution will be availed.
The Peleng giants failed to form a quorum last Saturday and the club chairperson, Tariq Babitseng told Mmegi Sport that the Saturday meeting will proceed as long as the chairperson or president are in attendance as per the constitution.
“Constitutionally we had to call the meeting again after seven days and that will be this Saturday. We are going to update our members on the health bill of the club. We have been in talks with two potential investors who are willing to come on board. So we will update our members on these and they will give us direction on this matter,” he said.
“I would not disclose further, but we have two investors and could be three after this (Thursday) evening meeting. One other thing is that, we will have a draft of the new constitution because we feel that the current one is outdated. So our members will discuss the new draft before we can move forward in amending it.”
Meanwhile, Rollers will continue to prepare for the CAF Champions League as they face Namibian league runners up, African Stars in an international friendly to be played at the Royal Stadium on Saturday at 3pm.
African Stars reserves will, in an earlier kick off, face Police XI at noon at the same venue.
