Goalkeeper Anthony ‘Khune’ Gouws was the star of the night as he bagged two awards following his exploits last season. He scooped the supporter’s player of the season and the prestigious player of the season award, pocketing P8,000 in cash.

He attributed his success to hard work and dedication to deliver good results.

“I never stop learning and I listen to my coaches for guidance. I am grateful for the supporters for choosing me as the supporter’s player of the season and I acknowledge the management for trusting me,” he explained.

Twenty-three old defender, Thabo Leinanyana also made a name for himself when he was awarded the most improved player and player’s player of the season awards. He walked away with P6,500 in cash. Leinanyana was excited to reveal that the awards come as a motivation for him to work even harder to help his team escape any possible relegation.

“I feel no pressure, but I acknowledge the management for recognising my efforts as a player and I will like to urge my fellow team-mates to continue working together to be on top,” said Leinanyana. Other awards included top goal scorer which was scooped by Tebogo Sembowa after scoring 13 goals. Boitumelo Mafoko was also honoured by the chairman. The president’s awards went to Moreetsi Mosimanyana for his dedication and hard work. Aobakwe Mmetli, who has been a fond supporter for the team for ages, was also honoured while the head coach Philani Mabhena also had a share of recognition from the club president.

Meanwhile, the Botswana FIFA representative Ashford Mamelodi implored the management to reflect back on challenges and come up with strategies to grow the galaxy brand. He urged them to be eager to be professional and be content for growth.

“You have a choice to remain in the Premier League or face relegation or rather remain a typical team with less impact. You need to embrace proper corporate entity and good governance in football,” he advised.

He commended the team for reaching the Premier League after two years of existence. The team was formed after the merger of  Jwaneng Comets and Debswana Young stars in 2014. Mamelodi said he was equally impressed by the vision of the club to deploy their head coach, Philani Mabhena, to youth club and replacing him with Mike Sithole.
