Mmegi dares Sunday Standard

The Sunday Standard served Mmegi with a letter of demand this week regarding the stories that relate to the acquisition of the Sunday Standard’s second-hand printing press funded by the New York-based CIA-linked Media Development Investment Fund (MDIF), as well as the one about the late Louis Nchindo bankrolling that newspaper during its formative years.

Responding to the Sunday Standard’s threat to sue, Mbuya, said, “Let them be our guest! They are cowards. We would relish the moment we face them in court, eyeball to eyeball.”

The Sunday Standard is demanding that Mmegi apologises and retracts the stories because they are “defamatory”! They deny that Nchindo invested money in their company which they did not return. Mbuya said Mmegi firmly stands by what it reported and it would not retract.

He said, “The veiled threat to sue is a public relations stunt by the Sunday Standard to save face. We will expose them for what they are.”

He said the “cheap propaganda” that the paper put out in this week’s Gazette under the headline “Sunday Standard threatens to sue Mmegi” is a “desperate attempt by the Sunday Standard management to appeal to the public for sympathy”.
