Former Zebras striker dies

According to Thakadu’s elder sister, Neo Dikgang, the 33-year-old striker was found unconscious in his bedroom at their mother’s home on Monday morning.
He was taken to Lerala clinic where he was certified dead upon arrival. “They told us he had long passed away at home,” she said.
His body is currently kept at Sefhare Primary Hospital mortuary. He will be taken to Nyangabgwe Referral Hospital for postmortem.
“We wish to establish exactly what could have happened to him,” his sister said.
His former coach at BR Highlanders, Tebogo Mokute was deeply saddened by the player’s untimely passing. He said he last spoke to Petit on Friday when he asked for advice on his career.
“Since I brought him to Highlanders in 2014, he became like a younger brother to me and we kept contact all along. He was considering hanging (up) his boot(s), but he had a number of offers,” Mokute said.
“The nation has lost a player with a great experience and a great heart. He loved football and gave 110% to it. It is indeed a sad moment for the football fraternity.”
His immediate past coach at Prisons XI, Pheko Motlhagodi shared similar sentiments on Petit.
“He was a grounded player, very respectful. He joined us on a six-month contract when we were fighting relegation and he contributed immensely to our survival. He was a great example and guidance to younger players,” Motlhagodi said.
Petit played for BR Highlanders, Miscellaneous, Nico United, Gaborone United, Orapa United and Prisons XI amongst other clubs.
He received his national team call-up in 2015 ahead of the second leg clash against Lesotho in an African Nations Championship qualifier.
