Chaminuka has coached Dynamos and ZPC Kariba in his home country.

He was also in charge of eSwatini MTN Premier League outfit Matsapha United, but quit after clashing with the team’s management. Chaminuka has served as assistant coach for the Zimbabwean national team.

On Sunday, TAFIC interviewed five candidates who have shown interest in coaching the club. Chaminuka is reported to have been amongst those who attended the interview.

He is said to be the frontrunner for the coaching job as he boasts better credentials than his rivals for the job.

Current TAFIC coach, Elias Chinyemba is said to have been amongst those who attended the interview.

Chinyemba has been handling the team’s training during the pre-season preparations although there is widespread speculation that he will not be in charge when the season starts.

However, Chinyemba is likely to be retained as assistant coach. Another Zimbabwean, Lloyd Chigowe is said to have been amongst those who attended the Sunday interview. Chigowe is relatively new in coaching senior teams.

He was appointed Dynamos coach towards the end of last season and helped rescue the club from relegation. He was, however, fired in April this year after a string of poor results in the Castle Premier League.

The names of the other two coaches who attended the interview are unknown. TAFIC chairperson, Carlos Sebina would not confirm nor deny that the club is eyeing Chaminuka.

“What I can confirm for now is that we had interviews on Sunday.

There were five candidates who were called for interviews. All of them were foreigners. By next week, we would have confirmed our new coach. To be precise, by Monday we would have decided on who we should appoint as coach,” said Sebina.

He added that the club is still assessing some foreign players with a view of signing them. The club has said it intends to sign two foreign players ahead of the 2019-2020 season.

“Several foreigners have been training with the team in recent weeks, but we are yet to make a decision as to who we will sign.  The information on who we will be signing will only be clear in the next few weeks.”
