This comes amid reports some South African officials including Netball South Africa chief executive officer (CEO) Blanche de La Guerre left for their country as they were not impressed by the organisation of the event.

“As far I know there were no issues.   They left because they had other engagements back home and one of their regions had lost two officials in a car accident coming from a netball meeting,” she said.

The qualifiers kicked off last Sunday and Botswana will host the main event next year for the first time.

“This has been a very good learning experience for us. Doing a test event was a very good idea. We have learnt so much. Administration-wise I would say we are 70% ready,” she said.

Lebotse-Sebego said they faced some challenges along the way in hosting the current event, especially with regard to accommodation when University of Botswana (UB) became unavailable.

However, Lekidi Football Centre, which is the home of Botswana Football Association (BFA) came to the rescue and accommodated some teams.

She said she is impressed by the way they handled time management.

“It is important that games start on time and we are almost ready on that aspect.  Attendance has been my biggest disappointment and I hope we can do more to publicise the games next year so that people can come in large numbers,” she said.
