Kweneng cultural fest to resuscitate culture

In an interview event organiser, Joel Mosimanyana also known by his stage name DJ Spitz Phoenix said the festival will be filled with rich Setswana song and dance like dikhwaere, setapa and mmino wa katara ya Setswana.
Mosimanyana said there would also be traditional games such as mhele, diketo, koi, skontiball and many others suitable for children and adults. Other amusements will be wire mesh cars (dikoloi tsa terata), jumping castle and face painting. Culture enthusiasts are expected to brighten the day with exquisite and colourful Setswana attire.
“The reason we came up with this event is because we have realised that there is dwindling of Setswana culture and traditions. We are about to change this through our cultural event that will be filled with traditional attire, music, dance, games, poetry and literature,” he said.
Mosimanyana added that there will be a clash of choirs by Phunyaselesele of Mhataneng/Matlhalerwa ward, Shiningystar choir of Suping ward and Mokwepa of Molepolole.
The festival will also feature traditional dance by Motshitshi dance troupe of Suping ward and Phathisi, which is made up of members aged between 10 and 65 years.
Kabo Leburu wa Katara from Lobatse, Mobi Mobster, Azeem (Molepolole), Tafnaz, Apollo D, Motshitshi dance troupe and others will be performing at the event. The DJs who will light up the cultural event include DJ Spitz Phoenix, Steady Onx, Noxiebuddy and Bandulu. The guest of honour will be a renowned Setswana poet, Moroka Moreri, who is also Suping ward headman.
“I am based at a cultural village plot. I have been trading with arts for more than a decade. I love my culture and as a Rastaman, I put Africa and my country’s traditions first,” he said.
“I love traditional Setswana music, poetry and dance thus those are the things I want to promote. I believe our culture has to be shared and enjoyed by other nations.”
Tickets are sold at P30 for adults and P10 for children. The event is expected to start at 2pm on Saturday and end at 6am the following day.
