Me Before You is the sensational screenplay that has fanatics drooling in cinemas about love. Like most other good films, Me Before You is a 2016 British romance flick adaptation based on one of the best selling novels (2012 book of the same title) by author Jojo Moyes. In this one tragedy and love become the centre of attention.

Louisa “Lou” Clark (Emilia Clarke) lives in a quaint town in the English countryside. With no clear direction in her life, the quirky and creative 26-year-old hops from one job to the next in order to help her tight-knit family make ends meet. Her normally cheery outlook is put to the test, however, when she faces her newest career challenge.

Taking a job at the local “castle,” she becomes a caregiver and companion to Will Traynor (Claflin), a wealthy young banker who became wheelchair bound in an accident, and whose whole world changed dramatically in the blink of an eye. No longer the adventurous soul he once was, the now cynical Will has all but given up. That is until Lou is determined to show him that life is worth living.

Embarking together on a series of adventures, both Lou and Will get more than they bargained for, and find their lives and hearts changing in ways neither one could have imagined.

This drama looks sparkling because it stars one of the biggest names in television at the moment, Game of Thrones’s queen of dragons herself Emilia Clarke, whose bubble just keeps on rising after last year’s endeavours in Terminator Genesis action alongside Arnold Shwarztsneger.

Co-star Sam Claflin also has big movie temperament as he had major roles in films like The Hunger Games. As captivating as Me Before You is, you would not believe if I told you Thea Sharrock was making her directorial grand entrance with this release.

Action

This film is like a litmus test for all those in relationships. Will you stand by your partner when the best of difficult times come knocking? That’s the source of fun for this film as it touches the audience deep within the soul.

One of my favourite highlights about the film is the transformation by Emilia Clark, from being known for her mature elements in Game of Thrones. This time she gets a role that makes her look like a rainbow also reminiscent of singer Katty Perry as Clarke constantly colour blocks with florescent colours even in the movie William mocks her style of fashion.

Sam Claflin’s performance also scintillates as much as you can almost connect to what the poor fella (William Trainer) is going through. He portrays a sad soul attitude very well.

It’s really heart-wrenching as to how life can turn upside down in an instant. So, the film doesn’t leave any stone unturned as it showcases that even the wealthy can succumb to tragedy and wealth materials such as money be of less value anymore. So the plot is truly original and relatable in that regard.

Me Before You is quite thrilling as it has good cliffhangers. It gets the audience on the edge of their seats dying with anticipation of what’s to be, whether the gorgeous looks of Lou would actually mend a sobbing man.

The film is also made vibrant by the engaging soundtracks incorporated in the background to bring out the emotions. As part of its cinematography smashing hit British pop songs like Ed Sheran- ‘Photograph/thinking aloud’ plus Cloves with ‘Don’t forget about me’ serenades the attending movie crowd.

The drama taps into themes of love, family, friendship, trust, betrayal and euthanasia that has our protagonists embroiled in conflict. Often in life, most people search for their true soulmates and it usually takes a lifetime to find them, some never even achieve what they are looking for.

However Me Before You blows one’s mind away pitching a niggling food for thought feeling/message of what if you were to find your true soulmate not in the best of shapes on their final moments on earth.

Such is what is wrapped in this blockbuster hidden between the lines. This epitomises true love, as it is funny and adventurous. There are plenty of comical moments like when William freaks Louisa out when acting deaf at first sight and this left the audience in tatters from broken ribs.

The director infused some of that mellow humour. Also it is meaningfully adventurous when it shows a younger lover willing to do anything to save a soulmate.

This romance-charged drama also has in store some dirty nasty laundry for those who enjoy dramatic conundrum. Betrayal is the evil aspect of Me Before You as friends commit unforgivable sins stealing the most of valuable girlfriends.
