Five BFA Regions To Face Music

This has now forced the association to defer the discussions on the financial statements to a later date.
Speaking disappointedly on Saturday, BFA president, Maclean Letshwiti said a special general meeting will be convened, which will specifically deal with the association’s financials.
“I propose that we defer this item on the agenda to a later date because some regions have not submitted their financials. Five regions did not comply so that I propose that we defer the financials to a special general meeting,” he said.
He said he was disappointed with the actions of the said regions.
“I had a four-hour meeting with those regions and told them that it should not happen again. Being the president of the association and a corporate person, I am really disappointed that financials that are an integral part of the general assembly cannot be discussed because some regions have failed to submit theirs,” he said.
He said people responsible for that should not be holding positions. He said although it was the responsibilities of the treasurers to submit the financials, the chairpersons of those regions were largely to blame for such gross incompetence.
He said such things scare away potential sponsors.
“We are already struggling with attracting sponsorship in our football. You can imagine potential sponsors hearing about our failure to submit financial statements. They will not want to be part of this,” he said.
Kelesitse Gilika was also disappointed. He said questions should be asked on whether Botswana football has the right people in the right positions.
“If we do not have the right people, we will be here again next year apologising,” he said.
Notwane president, Tebogo Sebego also said people have to account for this.
BFA vice president, Marshlow Motlogelwa however assured the delegates that letters have since been written to those regions about this deplorable behaviour.
Although the general assembly agreed to defer financials to a later date, Letshwiti did reveal that P20 million has been approved from FIFA to go into projects.
He said those projects should be able to generate income for the association in the future.
“The time has gone for us to be beggars. We have to be able to generate income for ourselves without having to always live on handouts,” he said.
He also did not spare the rod for the First Division, which he said, was responsible for scaring away sponsors.
He said he had to go and kneel down to Debswana to renew their sponsorship.
He said they scare away sponsors because of the things they say in the media.
Meanwhile, Letshwiti told the general assembly that he will stand again for elections next year.
He had initially announced that he will only serve one term in the association, but has since changed his mind because he still has some unfinished business.
