MITI Hails Grant Thornton Awards

Speaking during the fifth Grant Thornton Awards recently, Serame said the awards’ participation has grown from 16 companies to over 115 participating businesses.
“This gives businesses from all over the country the opportunity to get recognised,” she said.
The awards ran parallel to the 11th Annual Global Expo hosted by Botswana Investment and Trade Centre (BITC) under the theme, ‘Harnessing the power of emerging markets for economic growth’.
The expo targets both local and foreign potential participants in different sectors of the economy. It seeks to attract foreign direct investment, promote exports of locally produced goods and services as well as foster trade between Botswana and other countries.
According to Grant Thornton managing partner Kalyanaraman Vijay, the awards are held in partnership with Business Botswana and BITC aimed at showcasing and celebrating businesses from the country’s private sector. “Growth isn’t only about being bigger, it’s really about being better and sustainable. The awards align themselves with the company’s vision while also identifying with the theme of this year’s Global Expo,” he said. On his part, BITC chief executive officer Keletsositse Olebile said the awards are a strategy to encourage the sustainable growth of local businesses and industries.
He said they aim to recognise, reward and honour local companies that promote the spirit of success, innovation, job creation, and quality as well as refined business ethics in the business community.
Information Technology Integrators are the winners of the Founders Award while in the main category awards, Alpha Direct Insurance took the Medium Enterprise Award and Motovac walked away as the Large Enterprise award winners.
A new award category was introduced for this year’s awards being the Women-owned Business and Pride Mark User that Chabana Farms scooped.
Leseding Interiors won Investor of the Year Services while Bokomo Botswana won under the Manufacturing Sector.
Aliboats took the Exporter of the Year and Chloride Exide Botswana walked away with the Investor of the Eear-Expansions Award.
