He challenged the UDC leadership to produce the Gomolemo Motswaledi death report before seeking to be elected into power. Balopi was speaking on Saturday at the launch of Lefoko Moagi who is the BDP parliamentary candidate for Ramotswa constituency.
“I was the party secretary general when we went to elections in 2014. People were scared of our party saying we kill people. They said we were a bad party that denied people to go out,” said Balopi.
“We were accused of denying investors and tourists access into the country. I remember Duma Boko crying in front of the media saying former president Ian Khama and others have killed Motswaledi. They are now walking together. Now the question is, who do they want to kill?”
He also said the UDC claims to have a report that suggest BDP leaders killed Motswaledi. They should give us the report before elections, he demanded. Balopi also said they are happy with President Mokgweetsi Masisi’s leadership as he talks about consultations and improving the lives of Batswana. He said Masisi wants all to be proud of their country.
“On Thursday we saw opposition legislators oppose Masisi’s move to give you water. They do not like you and want to see you suffer. However, yesterday Parliament passed a few Bills including Declaration of Assets and Liabilities, Land Policy and Doing Business without a trade Licence. BMC purchase price has also been increased by P3.00 per kilogramme,” he said.
For his part, Moagi promised to deliver the constituency to the BDP. “I am saddened by the large number of unemployed youth while our constituency is rich in tourist attraction areas. My vision is for use our land for agricultural and tourism related businesses. We have factory shells that we need to use and create jobs. Bolux Milling should be getting a lot of maize from us and I will ensure that it happens,” he said.
Moagi also said there are some areas in Ramotswa that do not have water. He said together with his councillors they would make sure that they supply people with water once voted into office.
Former area legislator, Odirile Motlhale said it was right that Ramotswa people correct the mistake they made by voting out the BDP in 2014.
“You made a grave mistake by voting me out and voting for someone with no history of delivering anywhere. I came up with solid motions in Parliament including constituency funding and now you voted Rantuana who has done absolutely nothing in Parliament,” he said.
Motlhale said since Samuel Rantuana took over Ramotswa has been moving backwards. He called on residents to vote for Moagi and 11 councillors if they want to see Ramotswa develop.
BDP’s chairperson for political, education and election committee, Alec Seametso said this year’s election is different from others and there is need for them to work together and vote.
“We are the best democracy in Africa and continue to develop this country. Opposition parties are misleading you by promising you jobs as if job shortage is unique to Botswana. Our manifesto is clear on how we intend to create jobs,” said Seametso.
“Duma Boko promises 100,000 jobs. This year it is going to be tough for him as nobody is dead. He wants something to happen so that he can cry. Right now he is not paying tax and when authorities go after him, he cries.”
In 2014, Rantuana (BCP) won the constituency with 7,307 votes, Motlhale (BDP) garnered 6,689 votes, Gaontebale Mphafe (UDC) got 2,412 while 1,398 people voted independent candidate Joseph Sorinyane.
Moagi will be up against Rantuana who is now under the UDC after his party joined the coalition.
