Toyota, Honda maintain local market lead

Toyota is by far the country’s most popular vehicle in terms of new and old registrations, being a firm favourite for many decades.

Figures in recent times, however, have shown that Honda is increasing in popularity, overtaking other previous favourites such as Volkswagen, Mazda and Nissan, particularly in terms of first registrations.

Stats Botswana figures for new registrations in the first quarter of 2019 indicate that while Toyota was the most popular, the actual number of first time Toyotas registered was 5,282 down from 6,036 in the fourth quarter of 2018.

By comparison, first time registrations of Hondas was up at 1,743 in the first quarter of 2019, from 1,607 in Q4, 2018. Honda, particularly the Fit and Jazz used models, have become highly popular in the country for their affordability and durability, particularly in the public transport sector.
