Mahalapye man convicted of murder

Justice Lot Moroka found Kabelo Maiketso guilty of stabbing Phillipinas Humu to death with a knife on June 19, 2013 at Xhosa ward.

He allegedly murdered Humu at his girlfriend’s place after he visited her and found her in a compromising position with Humu.

Delivering judgment, Moroka said that Maiketso’s assertion that he killed Humu in self-defence was not true beyond any reasonable doubt.

Justice Moroka added that Maiketso’s defence was compounded by the fact that he even threatened his girlfriend with the same knife that he used to kill Humu.

“When the accused’s girlfriend told him that the deceased was bleeding and needed help, the accused told her that he did not care even if the deceased died. This shows that he was determined to kill the deceased,” Moroka said.

Moroka added that the state has established beyond any reasonable doubt that the accused was guilty of murder contrary to Section 202 of the Penal Code (Cap 08: 01) and thus returned a conviction of guilty against Maiketso.

Justice Moroka subsequently revoked Maiketso’s bail and remanded him in custody pending Maiketso’s appearance in court for mitigation and extenuating factors on August 21.
