Redds Chillstep Sundays celebrates one year

The event is a brainchild of EDM Live Projects, an events company, headed by Yarona FM radio personality Drew Chadhall and is held on the last Sunday of every month. The objective of Redds Chillstep Sundays is to promote artists and the fine arts industry.

In its one-year of growth Redds Chillstep Sundays has grown to be one of the best monthly events in the country. When it was incepted last year it used to attract small numbers of up to 30 people. The event now attracts close to 400 people every month. Artists such as Tebogo Cranwell, Thuto Sekate, Nick Bonte and Maungo ‘Blu’ Seabenyane have exhibited their crafts at the event.

“I remember when we started there was a lot of confusion and very little belief in the project. One year later, it’s one of the country’s leading events and beneficial movement,” said Chadhall.

He admitted that the event has since grown into something big from what it was a when it was incepted. He said the attendance growth and public appreciation of the project is what has contributed to the consistency of Redds Chillstep Sundays.

“We have seen versatile attendance throughout, young, old, white, black and recently we have had visitors from a movement in Kenya ‘Transform Kenya’ and SABC covering the event and celebrating with us,” he said.

Through their objective of promoting artists Redds Chillstep Sundays has managed to help artists get recognition.  “The movement has always been and will always be about the betterment of our artists and fine arts industry. We have seen our artists work on high end walls, restaurants, getting a growing clientele and some of our artists are being invited to exhibit at galleries as far as Zambia, Kenya and South Africa,” he said. As a way of growth Chadhall stated that Redds Chillstep Sundays has developed new incentives such as Arts For Student, Art Market, Local Label Expo just to mention a few. “We have attracted interests from countries like France and Japan and once ready, you will be the first to know,” he said.

To celebrate the anniversary this Sunday’s session will have artists exhibiting their craft and also a line up of entertainers such as Ricky Lamar, German Dollar, Nt Base, DJ Izzy, Macx and DJ Spinz.
