After being nominated four times in the past three years, Kaybee did not throw in the towel, but kept fighting until she finally claimed the coveted prize.

She told Arts & Culture this week that in the past few years she has been nominated across all categories like best contemporary gospel and best music video.

“Now with this award, I managed to beat all the gospel female artists out there. I am the queen of gospel,” she gladly said.

For an artist who has been nominated for both BOGMA awards and BOMU, Kaybee said the recent award means that there is a beauty in being appreciated for a job well done.

“I have been encouraged to keep going higher. From 2008 when I recorded my first album to 2019, I had to be appreciated somehow otherwise it would all have been for nothing,” she highlighted.

The artist who founded an annual event called Okavango Music Festival added that the award gives her the determination to keep pushing because people will now recognise her.

Kaybee acknowledged that awards like BOGMA gives artists motivation to work even harder and produce quality work.  She admitted however that the competition was tough. “I now urge other gospel artists not to compete only within the gospel music industry but the music industry as a whole. We have to look into that spectrum,” she said.  Kaybee said she used her wuparo album to compete despite it having been released years back.

“In the best female gospel artist they look at your work collectively, you see, the impact it has on people. The wuparo album was the first album to penetrate Namibia and Botswana and it was worth it. It enhanced the Kaybee brand,” she revealed.

She was quick to admit that she was anticipating untold pressure after winning the award,  but said instead of recording new work, she will concentrate on shooting music videos.
