Met Services employee murdered, husband missing

According to the Letlhakane station commander, superintendent Michael Maphephu foul play is suspected in the woman’s death. He said that prior to the murder, the deceased was supposed to report for a meeting in the morning at work, which she did not attend, therefore raising her co-workers’ suspicion.

“After seeing that the deceased did not attend the meeting, the co-workers, knowing the deceased as someone who takes her work seriously and wouldn’t miss such an important meeting without any reason, went to check her at the house.

That is when they were welcomed by the unpleasant sight of blood flowing under the door.

They found their co-worker lifeless in a pool of blood,” he said. Maphephu confirmed that a sharp weapon was used to kill the deceased and she was certified dead upon arrival at the hospital.

He said they are still in the dark as to what might have led to the tragedy as well as who might have caused the death of the deceased. However, the police said, the whereabouts of the deceased‘s husband are still unknown and his phone was off. “Some information reaching us is that the deceased was seen with her husband a day before the tragedy, but he (husband) has disappeared and efforts to reach him have proven futile,” he said. He added that issues of murder are a concern in his area saying that since the beginning of the year, this is the fourth murder they have recorded.

He appealed to people to always seek help from community leaders such as pastors, dikgosi and the police among others, whenever they have misunderstandings to avoid taking the law into their own hands.

In another matter, the station commander said that they are investigating a case in which a 16-year-old girl was raped at the cattle-post.

He said that sometime last week, the victim in the company of her younger siblings aged 11 and seven went to the cattle-post to ask for milk whereupon the herdboy of the said cattle-post raped her.

“Prior to the alleged rape the culprit chased away her siblings with stones and by the time they arrived with assistance he was nowhere to be found.  He is still on the run,” said Maphephu. Maphephu also decried high cases of rape in his area saying that to date since the beginning of the year they have recorded 43 cases of rape.

He noted that in a bid to fight rape in his area they have managed to raise funds for a procession against rape in which they are targeting all concerned stakeholders.
