The new service will allow for real-time card-less cash deposits into its accounts by both customers and non-customers at anytime and on their own.

Speaking at the launch, head of marketing and corporate relations, Duduetsang Molloy said the service is one of the bank’s latest digital banking advancement, which is going to improve their service to the customer.

She said ATM has evolved from being a mere cash-dispensing machine to one with an array of functionalities.

“The ATM is becoming a fully functioning bank through Internet banking hence making banking easier,” Molloy said.

She said the new addition is real time and reflects in the account immediately and will cost the customer 45 thebe per P100. She said customers can deposit up to P10,000 and the service is open to individuals only.

Molloy said the card-less cash deposit offers a variety of payments options such as maintenance, rental, salary, motshelo, cattle sales, hawker sales, stock sales, offerings, construction payment and others.

She disclosed that they started with the Francistown region and has so far enabled nine ATMs.

She said the rollout to other places such as Selibe-Phikwe, Gaborone and Molepolole will start in the next six to eight weeks to activate 75 ATMs.

“We have worked tirelessly day and night to bring this service to our clients and we are very excited that we are finally offering them this service,” she said.

Molloy said the service would help reduce long queues in branches and afford staff to spend more time attending to complex issues to help their customers prosper.

She encouraged Batswana to use the service, as it is safe, secure and inexpensive.

“As a bank we have taken heed of these trends and we are constantly finding ways to upgrade our ATMs to ensure they service our customers as much as possible,” she said.

She said their digital journey started in 2009 with mobile banking followed by Internet banking, with additional features such as instant DStv connection and international money transfers, where you can pay school fees or suppliers across the borders.

“Our mission is to make banking a smaller part of our customers day and ensure that they have time to do other things that matter to them such as spending quality time with family and friends,” she said.

She said the new feature is a result of feedback from their customers after launching the ATM cash deposit in 2014.

She noted that early this year, Barclays Plc announced their intention to sell African operations and the issue has been a topical matter with widespread media coverage.

“I want to take this time to assure you that Barclays Bank of Botswana is committed to the country and open for business,” she said.

Molloy added that their commitment remains the same as demonstrated by the investments they are contributing in the community and enhancing customer service through improved systems and digital technologies.

She disclosed that Barclays was the first bank to launch the ATM in Botswana in 1990.
