After staging an impressive act in Swaziland early this year, Nigma has been invited to be among the international comedians that will feature on Mdura’s #Zer0Chill DVD shoot.

The female comedian is confident that she will stage another impressive act after she managed to relate with the Swaziland audience in February.

“I was able to connect with the Swati audience in my ability to speak their language and I believe they appreciated my effort in taking the time to learn their most important cultural aspect, their language. I noticed that siSwati is closely similar to Zulu which I learnt from TV and a bit of Ndebele helps too,” said Nigma who speaks a number of Bantu languages.

Nigma, who is set to leave the country for Swaziland on Thursday, admitted that the Swaziland invitation has made her understand how to approach and understand the audience from different backgrounds.

“The Swaziland show helped me understand that people are basically the same. Everyone loves to laugh, especially about their problems and habits. So it doesn’t matter where you are performing,” she added.

Nigma, who is excited about the Swaziland gig, stated that through artistic connections, she managed to have a professional relationship with Mdura after his manager contacted her with an interest of having the two comedians work together.

Mdura is the first comedian in Swaziland to have his own live stand-up comedy show.

The comic, who is also a rapper, said she has intentions of staging more international performances after the upcoming Swaziland gig. “If you want to be an international success you need to step beyond your borders. You grow your craft and yourself as an artist. You build contacts and make friends outside the country so if ever there was some sort of disaster in Botswana I can take refuge in elsewhere, ” Nigma said jokingly.

She stated that Ugandan Anne Kansiime, who performs in different parts of the continent and has been dubbed as the queen of African comedy, inspires her to penetrate foreign boarders.
